X. INTERNATIONAL ALLOCATION OF RICE

At its Sixth Session the Council approved the recommendation that the International Emergency Food Committee be abolished on 30 June 1949 but that rice allocations be maintained for the year 1949, the Rice Committee continuing to operate in accordance with its general responsibility to the Director-General.

The Council has now received a resolution from the Rice Committee (CL 7/6) stating that, in view of the practical difficulties and disadvantages vitally affecting the economies of certain countries, it is no longer possible to develop a workable allocation recommendation, and therefore that the system of international allocation of exportable rice should be discontinued as from 31 December 1949.

The Council approves this recommendation, and notes with appreciation the useful work done by the Rice Committee.
