Locusts in CCA General situation during April 2019 Forecast until mid-June 2019 Moroccan Locust (DMA) hopper development was in progress in all Central Asian (CA) countries except the Russian Federation as well as in Azerbaijan and probably in Georgia. Because of the cool and wet weather, hopper development was delayed in most countries, and control operations were carried out on significantly smaller areas than in April 2018 (except for Kyrgyzstan). During the forecast period, DMA fledging will occur in most countries while hatching followed by hopper development will take place in the Russian Federation and generalize in Azerbaijan and probably Georgia. Italian Locust (CIT) hatching will start in CCA countries progressively from south to north. LMI hatching will also start at the end of the forecast period. Since the beginning of the national campaigns, 122 408 ha have been treated against DMA hoppers, about four times less than in 2018. -

No results found.Moroccan Locust (DMA) hopper development was in progress in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation while it was coming to an end in Azerbaijan, Georgia as well as in southern Central Asian (CA) countries where fledging, mating and egg-laying started. During the forecast period, DMA breeding will become widespread in all countries and the species will start disappearing in southern CA. Italian Locust (CIT) hatching occurred and hopper development was in progress in all countries except Afghanistan, where it was not reported as a pest. Migratory Locust (LMI) hatching started in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. For both CIT and LMI, fledging will start during the forecast period. In total, 524 342 ha were treated in CCA countries since the beginning of the 2019 campaign. This is only 36% of the area treated in the same period in 2018. Caucasus. DMA hopper development continued in Azerbaijan and probably in Georgia. Adults started scattered flights and mating in late May. CIT hopper development was in progress in Azerbaijan while hatching has not yet started in Armenia. A total of 32 625 ha were treated in May in Azerbaijan. Central Asia. DMA hopper development was coming to an end, fledging occurred and mating and egg-laying started in southern Central Asian countries (Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). DMA hopper development was in progress in Kazakhstan and Russia. CIT hopper development was in progress in all countries, except in Afghanistan where the species was not reported. LMI hatching started in late May in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan where young hoppers were observed. In May, almost 1 007 000 ha were treated. -

Moroccan Locust (DMA) fledging, mating and egg-laying started in southern parts of Central Asia. DMA hopper development continued in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russian Federation. Italian Locust (CIT) hatching and hopper development continued in Georgia and in Central Asian (CA) countries. Migratory Locust (LMI) hatching started in Kazakhstan, Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. DMA swarm flights including across borders were reported in the southern part of CA. The situation with DMA was critical in Tajikistan, while it was classified as caution for both DMA and CIT in most other countries. During the forecast period, DMA breeding will continue and its lifecycle will come to the end while CIT hopper development will continue in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation and northern regions of Kazakhstan. LMI hopper development will continue in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. CIT fledging will occur in other regions of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In total, 427 379 hectares (ha) have been treated in CCA from the beginning of the 2022 campaign to the end of May, which is 35 percent lower compared to the same period in 2021 (665 000 ha).
