Follow the Mountain Partnership!

30.05.2019

The Mountain Partnership uses social media to promote, advocate and raise awareness about mountain issues all around the world. As well as shed light on mountain communities, that would not have had an opportunity to voice their opinions otherwise. With over 360 members around the world, the Mountain Partnership shares lessons learned, indigenous and scientific knowledge, and promotes good practices that can build the resilience of mountain peoples to food insecurity, climate change and the effects of globalization.

Social media can serve as a critical tool in advocacy, international involvement, and as a common platform and story-telling tool for raising awareness. However, in order to ensure maximum impact it is essential that all our MP members follow us and share our stories.

The Mountain Partnership has three main social media accounts, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as Youtube and Flickr. The MPS ’Facebook has gained 1000 followers in the past year. The MPS also launched our Instagram this year. The official hashtag used by the Mountain Partnership is #MountainsMatter. Since our twitter launch in March 2018, the #MountainsMatter hashtag has been tweeted over 15,000 times and delivered to over 200 timelines.

With International Mountain Day approaching, the theme for this year is ‘Mountains matter for Youth’. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the day by organizing youth forums, hands-on activities, presentations, student debates, photo and art competitions, hikes and events targeted to specific age groups.

Now is the time to join the conversation and start using the hashtag #MountainsMatter.

Share your stories about the reality of living in the mountains as a young person, or post a photo of your favourite mountain moment and share it with us and your friends. Follow us on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to promote the message!
