Ce document est un guide pratique qui fournit la liste et les détails techniques des matériaux à utiliser pour assembler une cage hexagonale en bois pour l'élevage de poissons, ainsi que son système d'amarrage, dans le cadre d'une aquaculture artisanale. Les instructions pour l'assemblage des différents composants sont illustrés en détail et les directives techniques pour l'installation sur le site d'élevage sont aussi décrites. Cet ouvrage propose également des indications pour s'orienter dans le choix du modèle de cage et des composants utilisés en fonction des caractéristiques du site (environnementales, logistiques et sociales). Les exigences physiologiques des espèces d'elevage sur incidence sur les performances d'élevage ont été également évaluées dans le but de fournir le maximum d'informations nécessaires à la planification et à la mise en place d'une telle activité. Ce manuel explique également qu'il est possible, à travers le modèle de cage illustrée, d'exploiter des mili eux plus turbulents que ceux de l'aquaculture artisanale opérée traditionnellement. En fin de volume des annexes donnent des renseignements complémentaires sur les thèmes traités dans le texte. -

Cage aquaculture has grown rapidly during the past decades and there has been a move towards the development and use of more intensive cage-farming systems to access and expand into untapped open water areas, particularly in marine offshore waters. Fish cages vary in design, size and material used as they have been designed for employment in diverse environments, ranging from relatively protected to highly exposed and dynamic sites, either as floating or fully submerged structures. This technica l manual focuses on the high density polyethylene (HDPE) cages as they are widely used in modern-industrial marine aquaculture in many parts of the world. In general this is a guide to help support good monitoring practice, with details on what to monitor, parameters to be collected, how data is collected, appropriate ways to process the data and what to do with it once the survey is complete and results available. Such monitoring activity will ensure that cage farms use practices that minimize environmental impacts for the long term sustainability of cage aquaculture within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In this sense the document is for fish farmers and their consultants to ensure a unified process of monitoring using standardized procedures, but is more generally applicable for all stakeholders.
