International Year of Pulses - Global Dialogue
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is organizing a Global Dialogue (GD) on the International Year of Pulses 2016 at its headquarters in Rome, Italy from 22 to 23 November 2016. The GD will provide a forum for various stakeholders in the pulses sector, to discuss the issues and the challenges related to the production, consumption and trade of pulses. It will also generate a set of recommendations for concrete action and follow-up beyond 2016.
The objectives of the Global Dialogue are to:
- Review the year’s activities and outcomes - including the IYP Regional Dialogues, Online Fora, academic papers and advocacy activities.
- Identify knowledge gaps and research needs.
- Agree on common priorities for policy, advocacy and research related to pulses
- Formulate a coherent set of recommendations for the IYP beyond 2016 (in line with SDGs)
The two – day facilitated event will bring together a wide spectrum of stakeholders and representatives of each region (Africa, Near East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean).
In order to ensure focused and productive discussions, the participants are expected to have an expertise and/or an active interest in the above issues, which should preferably be connected with their professional work.
