U.S. FOREST TREE SEED CENTRE ESTABLISHED

The U.S. Forest Service, in co-operation with state forestry services, universities and private forest industry in the United States, has established a United States Forest Tree Seed Centre at Macon, Georgia.

Initially, the Seed Centre will furnish seed of the four major Southern Pines (Pinus echinata, P. elliottii, P. palustris and P. taeda). The more important southern hardwoods, and other southern conifers, will also be handled as seed can be obtained. Collections will be made representing the major variation in the range of each species. Additional species will be available as development of the Centre continues.

A service charge will be levied to cover the costs of processing requests and administering the programme. The scale of charges will be:

1)Seed Orchard Seed without clonal identification 
  (1 000 seed maximum)US$  20.-
 
2)Seed Orchard Seed with clonal identification 
  (   100 seed maximum)   "     20.-
 
3)All others (except special collection) 
  Minimum   500 –  2 500 seed   "       5.-
   2 501 –  5 000   "   "     10.-
   5 001 –  7 500   "   "     15.-
   7 501 – 10 000  "   "     20.-
 
4)Special Collections - based on actual costs. The requestor will be given a price quotation for approval before the collection is made. Requests for special collections outside those normally stocked by the Seed Centre will be arranged when possible, with actual costs to be charged to the requesting foreign agency or organization.
