Dimensions and determinants of rural poverty
The following factors contribute to overall rural poverty:
· Increasing environmental degradation, particularly desertification and deforestation are reducing productivity and increasing women's difficulty in providing water and fuelwood.
· Illiteracy and lack of access to formal education.
· Male migration to the urban areas is increasing women's poverty and work.
