2. Narrative

The cruise plan of the vessel was:

Departure Punto Fijo: 15 September.
Arrival Cartagena: 23 September.
The course tracks and fishing stations, both pelagic and demersal, and hydrografic stations are shown in Figure 1. After departure from Punto Fijo the coverage of the Gulf of Venezuela was completed. Data from the Gulf of Venezuela is fully reported in Cruise Report III, Part 3 and summarized information from the overlapping area is included in this report. The results of previous surveys have not indicated especially important areas and the survey effort was allocated evenly from Peninsula Guajira and westward. Deep sea trawling for shrimps was planned in various areas but few hauls were carried out due to difficult bottom conditions. Cruise tracks were adjusted to work the bottom trawl stations for swept area biomass estimation during daytime. Pelagic trawling and hydrografic sections were preferably worked at nigthtime. In some areas additional cruise tracks were run at night for pelagic trawling. In total 53 hauls were carried out of which 42 were demersal and 11 pelagic. Only 2 hauls deeper than 200 m were made. The integration covered 1019 miles.
