4. Fish distribution.

Figure 4 illustrates the distribution of all fish as observed with the the acoustic integration system. This will mainly show the pelagic species, but some demersal fish which lifts off the bottom, especially at night, will also be included. Inside the Gulf of Venezuela one area of relatively high density of small pelagic fish was found east of the Peninsula de Guajira. An incomplete sampling indicated that this aggregation consisted of anchovy, some dogtooth herring and juvenile forms of various clupeids. Along the shelf westwards aggregations of pelagic fish were only located in few and restricted areas close inshore. Sampling showed these to consist of thread herring and sardinella with some carangids.
