Individual mini-catchments. Soil is mounded in semicircular fashion around the plant and against the slope. This system is advisable for orchards having up to 3 percent slope. The mound can be placed 1 -m away from the beles stem (Plate 4).
Contour furrows. This is the most common of the soil erosion control practices for agricultural fields with gentle slope. The furrows can be constructed with animal drawn plouhgs or tractors. Beles plants are placed on the upper side of the furrow, the roots in turn will improve resistance to water erosion (Plate 5).
Bench terraces. Constructing bench terraces for beles production implies heavy investment. Introducing beles to sites already covered by this practice may represent an alternative use to tree plantations. Accessibility the site should be the main concern when selecting such sites (Plate 6).
