There are two planting layouts for forage and/or vegetable production:
Extensive in rows. Use rows 1.0 to 1.2 m apart, with distance between plants of 40 cm. Use single cladode-cuttings. (Plate 9).
Broad-bed production. Build a broad bed, raising the soil 20 to 25 cm above the surrounding area. Plant four lines of cladodes on top of the bed, in rows 30 cm apart. The distance between plants within rows is 40 cm (Plate 10).
