FAO wraps up its presence with contributions to AI4Agri 2026 in Mumbai

27/02/2026

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations concluded its participation across AI for Impact India 2026 by contributing to multiple high-level sessions at the AI4Agri Global Conference & Investor Summit (22–23 February) hosted at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Across sessions, FAO advanced global dialogue on responsible AI, investment ecosystems and collaborative research for agrifood systems transformation.

22 February, Opening Inaugural Session and Plenary

Dejan Jakovljevic, FAO CSI Chief Information Officer, highlighted the opportunity of AI to accelerate agrifood system transformation while ensuring inclusion and resilience.

FAO also led the plenary “Investing in Agri-AI Futures – Investment Markets and Scalable Innovations”, convening partners including the World Bank and International Finance Corporation. Takayuki Hagiwara, FAO India Representative, emphasized the need for investment frameworks that align innovation with sustainability and equitable access.

23 February, Session “Collaborative Frameworks for Agri-AI: From Shared Knowledge to Co-Development”

Alongside CGIAR and Wageningen University & Research, in his keynote, Vincent Martin, FAO Office of Innovation's Director, underscored the institutional shift required for AI to deliver impact:

“Artificial intelligence is not simply accelerating agricultural research. It is exposing the inefficiencies in how we generate, share, and apply knowledge.” He added that “in the AI era, collaboration must operate at the level of shared datasets, shared model architectures, shared experimentation environments and shared ethical guardrails.” In fact, “the value of AI in agriculture will not be measured by how sophisticated our models are. It will be measured by whether farmers trust them.”
