Hi All I work for SANGONeT -a 22 year old NGO focusing on ICTs in the develoment sector, and based in Johannesburg South Africa. Until recently I was the ICT services Manager. I have just been appointed the project manager of an m-agriculture project to be implemented in Zambia and East Africa. We will be working with existing Agricultural support programmes in horticulture and dairy, designing and implementing mobile solutions that aim to increase the efficiency of the programmes, and ultimately to raise incomes of small-holder farmers. Figuring out whether increased use of mobile tech is likely have a bias for or against increased participation of women farmers is a key part of the project, and something we're designing for right now. Yours Matthew

由 Sridhar Gutam 提交于 周三, 07/07/2010 - 07:27
Hi all, I am late to join this forum. I am now working at Unit of Simulation and Informatics at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. I am basically interested in emprowerment of agricultural farmers and scientists in use of ICT for Agricultural Development. I have seen many of the inititatives are being taken up in India on Agriculture but, they are not much popular. It means that they are restricted to only few subjects/areas/institutes. I wish everyone who is into agriculural research and farming should be using more and more ICTs. I would also like to add that use of Free and Open Source Software for these ICTs should be mandatory.
由 Nadia Manning-Thomas 提交于 周三, 07/07/2010 - 10:56
Hi all, I am Nadia Manning-Thomas from the CGIAR ICT-KM program and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). I am based in Ethiopia where I have lived for three years now. I am a Knowledge Sharing in Research specialist. I have over the years been working on a number of knowledge sharing in research projects and initiatives. We are looking at what knowledge sharing approaches, including a wide range of ICTs can be used to make knowledge travel from research projects themselves and by researchers themselves-not just from institutes! One key aspect that comes up alot is how does this have an impact on livelihoods. Does knowledge sharing increase impact of research on rural livelihoods? Also a growing concern is whether knowledge sharing and ICTs have any gender implications and impact. we are looking at ways to monitor and evaluate this and finding more effective ways of involving and empowering women through knowledge sharing and use of ICTs--which is way i am excited to be part of this forum! Cheers, Nadia
