I am Dr. Monjul Islam, I represent FARMER(Fellowship for Agri Resource Management and Entrepreneurship Reserach) a Non-governmenal Organization of North East India. Our core focus of activities is agriculture and allied sector. We take up action field research, participate in poilicy making initiatives, take need based capacity building initiatives for different group of agriculture and allied sector communities to help them make their agriculture a sustainable livelihood option etc. Currently we are parter of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), India program, International Livestock Research Institute(ILRI) and National Bamboo Mission. "Mobile Telephony in rural Areas" is the timely topic especially in the region like Northeast India where communication is a bottle neck for many development initiatives. Hope to share few field experiences in course of the disussion. Congratulations to the initiators and my best wishes for all the forum members. Hope the discussion shall open a new era of development, particularly by enabling the rural farming community to participate in development process.
