Is ICT revolution Beneffited Farmer?

17/11/2008
This is true that after ICT revolution there is increasing the participation of rural people in development activities. But it is surprisingly the people who were dipressed they are being dpressed in this system of revolution. The question is here whether the ICT revolution will reduce the gap between the people or widen the gap? My exprience tells that due to inappropriate institutional arrangement in the rural economy most of people are being outside this development process. Now come to agriculture that whether this revolution will helpp farmers or not. First the question is who are accessing this system and how they are using. If there is no information regarding the agricultural activity and marketing strategy passthough the mobile then it will be difficult to say this revolution has positive impact on agricltural development. So it necessary to understand the process and how this would challalised though mobile or ICT revoultion. This is my suggestion.

Dear Braja Bandhu Swain, you raise the important issue that technology is generally neutral, but the way in which individuals and society utilize technology can have either a positive or a negative impact. Any thoughts you may share about reducing the negative impact of mobile telephony would be greatly appreciated. Please check the first discussion question which is now posted under the new thread "Discussions - Week 1". Cheers, Michael (FAO)
