The strategy proposes work along four lines: • Identify needs: Execute a preparatory, intensive study of the needs of priority users; • Integrate: Create integrated access to global public goods stewarded by the CGIAR (technical standards/portal work); • Network: Facilitate networking and capacity building to ensure the best possible linkages between CGIAR, National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) and other partners for public goods generation and sharing; • Add value to information: Creation of value-added information products and services Do these four areas cover what we need to do, or is there something missing? In this post I'll outline our plans for the next three weeks. We hope you are reading and considering adding your thoughts to the discussions. Our contributors noted the importance of the key components of the strategy, identified some current collaborations that are increasing the sharing of data, noted the importance of shifting the practices of scientists to make it easier to share data, discussed intellectual property rights and global alliances, and highlighted the importance of local needs and contributions to the iGPGs. The issue of access to GIS information, to scientific journals and how Open Access can be provided in local areas through telecenters have been identified. While the value add of the report is important, there is additional value in access to the raw data collected for the report. Greetings! The report -out from the F2F in Rome should be up on Monday. We'll then be able to add to/comment upon what our colleagues did in Rome. It was structured slightly differently than our conversations here, so it might offer us another way into the complex question about how to best share CGIAR's iGPGs.
