Arusha The Agricultural Council of Tanzania (ACT) has established a new Internet information search service that will enable agricultural sector stakeholders to communicate and get information on activities conducted by ACT. According to ACT managing director, Janet Bitegeko the service known as "Kilimo-wavu" will enable stakeholders to have direct contacts and access to information of activities being conducted by agricultural based NGOs, agro products exporters, processing industries and other companies related to agriculture The "Kilimo-wavu" programme aims at helping members to have access to internal and external market for their products by linking them with agro-business oriented companies and institutions globally. Speaking during a workshop that assembled ACT northern zone stakeholders, last Friday at the Golden Rose hotel, the director said apart from that ACT was also laying strategies to help grassroots farmers, livestock keepers and agro-products small scale traders so as to be able to establish their own organization. Currently ACT has registered agricultural sector stakeholders totaling about 7,000 countrywide and is working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperatives and MS Tanzania, a Denmark based organization, to improve internal and external market of agro-products. The workshop also aimed at collecting views from stakeholders on what they expect from ACT so as to use the data in laying a long term strategic plan for service provision of farmers and livestock keepers. ACT northern zone agricultural sector stakeholders meeting was opened by the Regional Commissioner, Col. Samwel Ndomba and attended by agro-tools traders, agro-products processing industries, farmers, livestock large scale keepers and agricultural based organization. Orignally published in:
