Mr. Amadou Niang, agroforester from Senegal has several postgraduate degrees on tropical agriculture engineering from the Ecole Supérieure d’Agronomie Tropicale (ESAT), in tropical forestry from École Nationale du Génie Rural, des Eaux et des Forêts (ENGREF) and rural development & rural geography from University Paul Valerie of Montpellier (UPVM), Montpellier, France. From 2016 to 2018, Amadou Niang was the CEO of Millennium Promise. From February 2006 through the end of 2015, Dr. Niang served as Director of the MDG Center for West and Central Africa of the Earth Institute, Columbia University in Bamako and later in Dakar. Before joining the MDG Centre, Dr. Niang was a principal scientist at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) from 1989 to 2006 based in Rwanda and Kenya, and the Regional Coordinator of ICRAF Sahel Region (based in Bamako, Mali) from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Niang worked for three years with the Semi-Arid Food Grains Research and Development (SAFGRAD) division of the Scientific and Technical Research Commission of the African Union in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Before joining SAFGRAD, he was the director of the National Forestry Research Center/ISRA in Senegal. Dr Niang has worked in agriculture research and development in various countries in West, Central, East, and Southern Africa, and has authored many scientific articles on agroforestry and integrated rural development.
