I just entered the forum and the discussion is very intersting and i will like to share what we intend to do with mobile phone and what we are currently doing. I am working on project called African Farm Radio Research Initiative, an action research project intending to answer the following questions- 1.How and in what ways is radio most effective in enabling smallholder farmers in Africa to address food security challenges? 2. How can new technologies such as cell phones, satellite radio and MP3 players increase the effectiveness of radio as a sustainable, interactive development communication tool We are currently at the stage of campaign development and broadcasting. We have experimented the use of moblie phone in various ways in rural communities to make the radio programs more interractive. Community facilitator will have access to phone for listening groups to call, farmer will call and pose questions to experts after the program for immediate response, text messages will be employed to allow farmers to ask question and participate in feed back session, call out shows will be encouraged, and also farmers will be allow to "Flash" their number for call back and as a feed back mode for questions posed during the broadcast. We are still looking for more opportunity to use this important gadget during our second campaign next year. this project is taking place in five African countries and i am in charge of the Ghana Project. I have seen the joy and jubilation of farmers when they received an instance response to the problem of rodents through a phone call to the agriculture extension officer. This is what moblie phone can bring instance solution to daily problem of small holder farmers.
