I am Dr. Md. Akram H. Chowdhury, Chairman, Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of Bangladesh I was Member of Parliament (MP) at the 9th Parliament (2009-2014) and was a member of the standing committee of the both the Ministry of Food and the Ministry of Disaster Management. I was also one of the members of Asian Parliamentary Advisory Group (APAG) of Disaster Risk Reduction affiliated with the UNISDR. As a Chairman of BMDA I am interested to enhancing the livelihood of the small farmers and help them organize hundreds of cooperative and trainings in this field. In addition to that I have also excavated miles of canals to help restore and preserve rain water which are being utilized by the farmers during the drought season. I also introduced LLP (low lift pump) in the river basin to being dangerously drawn through heavy-powered deep tubewells established by the Barind Authority under the ministry of agriculture. As a member of the parliamentary standing committee I have played a crucial role to established Food Security ACT 2013, Bangladesh. and Disaster Management Act 2012.for the women’s emancipation I have help women’s cooperatives and established digital data base centres for their economic independence help established computer laboratories in different primary and high schools and colleges. I was born 11 November 1954 in my village Chakrail, under the Badalgachhi upazila (sub-district) at Naogaon District in Bangladesh. I have done my Ph.d from USA Major in Law (2007) and L.L.M. in International Human Rights Law from University of Essex, England (1984-85). I obtained B.S.S and M.S.S in Social Welfare (1978-79) from University of Dhaka. I was awarded chevening fellowship course of Implementing Human Rights Conventions at the School of Law, University of Nottingham, England in 2005. At my early stage, I was a human rights activist and a professional Social Worker as well. I undergone intensive internship at the Human rights Internet (HRI) in Washington D.C (1984).
