TAP Common Framework is presented at CFS 42 side event (FAO HQ)

Concepts, principles and practical guidelines of the Common Framework on Capacity Development (CD) for Agricultural Innovation Systems (AIS), developed under the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP), were presented and discussed at a CFS 42 side event, which took place October 13 2015, from 8.30 to 9.30, at FAO HQ in Rome. Facilitated by FAO's Research and Extension Unit, TAP is a G20 initiative to promote better coherence and greater impact of CD for AIS in tropical countries.

In addition, the side event, called “Revisiting Capacity Development for greater impact on Food Security and Nutrition”, presented and reviewed progress made by three other initiatives that are seeking to improve coherence and efficiency of CD efforts for agricultural innovation:

  • Improved Agricultural Education in Africa to end hunger and achieve the AU/Malabo Declaration goals on Agriculture-led development.
  • CD in the Research-Innovation continuum in EU's food and nutrition security strategy
  • Reorganization of an OECD country (France) research, higher education and training system to serve more effectively its vision of an agroecology-based agriculture.

The side event was a joint effort between the European Commission (EC), FAO, the Government of France and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) Planning and Coordinating Agency.
