Nutritive value of Acacia salicina and Robinia pseudoacacia in goat feeding

Two metabolism experiments have been carried out in Granadina goats to determine the nutritive value of the edible parts of two trees from arid and semi-arid lands (Acacia salicina and Robinia pseudoacacia). Edible parts were dried at ambient temperature and the physicochemical composition and nutritive values were determined. The digestibility of A. salicina was calculated by a comparative method and that of R. pseudoacacia by the direct method. Despite the poor utilization of the protein in R. pseudoacacia and the limited energy value of both sources, it was concluded that cultivating these trees in arid and semi-arid lands as a feed resource for goats was worthwhile.
