Abstract

In Cyprus on April 13–15, 1994, the group of experts invited to discuss the 1995 TECAM programme, submitted proposals of activities on Diversification of Aquaculture Production. It was stressed to update and disseminate available information on alternative and preferred options for the reproduction and rearing species of high value and for the processing of products. This might be achieved by increasing the understanding of the markets and by exchanging materials and experts through the operation of joint research programmes and also by publishing specific information through the SIPAM Newsletter.

The meeting elaborated proposals taking into consideration the conclusions reached by the meeting on Diversification held in July 1991 in Malta.

Acknowledgements

The Editor would like to thank the Cypriot Authorities namely Mrs. Daphne Stephanou, the Sub-Regional coordinator on behalf of the National Coordinator for their support to the organisation of the meeting. Thanks are also addressed to the responsible of the Focal Point on Diversification, Mr. G. Georgiou for his contribution.

The Editor would like also to thank the Resident Representative of UNDP in Cyprus, the participants and the invited experts for their positive contribution.

Note from the reviser

The revision and publication of this document could only be done a long time after the closure of the project. This has led to some difficulties in finalising the documents and implementing corrections, because authors and contributors as well as some of the original material or files were no longer available.

Therefore contributions from participants and session papers annexed to most of the documents were left in their original form. No language corrections were introduced, the content was not modified and left under their respective authors' responsibility.

Considering the above, we hope that the reader will understand that a standard of publication could not be maintained on a level as high as we would have liked it to be.
