No results found.This is Chapter 4, "Soils and Humans," of the report Status of the World’s Soil Resources.The intensity of each land-cover type varies substantially across the globe according to numerous factors, including soils, altitude, climatic conditions and anthropogenic influences. The Chapter contains a land cover map. Summary land cover statistics by region, derived from the respective GIS layers are presented. Attention is particularly paid t o three main land cover classes: cropland, grasslands/grazing lands and forests. The presence of artificial surfaces is treated in more detail separately.
