Agroecology and backyard

A Necessary relationship for Food Production in Poor rural families in Puebla, Mexico.

In the context of food, environmental and global energy crisis, Mexico is one of the countries with the highest rate of food poverty; in the state of Puebla over 60% of the population has difficulty access to nutritious food. In this scenario the Agroecology is shown as an alternative capable of providing security and food sovereignty, which could help to improve the methodology of PESA (Strategic Project for Food Security), methodological and technical support strategy designed to work with marginalized families in the country, to improve their systems of production and income. This study seeks to recognize the knowledge and skills provided by the agencies to beneficiaries for capacity building on food security and sovereignty in the state of Puebla, an instrument based on the principles PESA was designed, which was applied to 10 randomly selected ADR and 50 families in the state of Puebla. The results show the intervention agency for capacity development practices of fertilization and pest control, as well as participation and inclusion of families in the program. Concluding that although the PESA methodology does not specify the approach to be taken to meet the objectives, there agroecology practices that encourage capacity building in families, impacting Security and Food Sovereignty.
