Constitutional provisions

Right to water: No explicit mention of the right to water.

Natural resources: The State must take care of environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources (Article 5). Environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources is ensured by law, taking into account the interests of current and future generations (Article 29). In addition, the Constitution clarifies that the following falls within the exclusive competence of the central government of Georgia: legislation pertaining to land, minerals, and other natural resources; the status and protection of territorial waters, airspace, the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone; aviation; the merchant fleet; ensigns; harbours of national significance; fishing in oceans and high seas; meteorology; environmental monitoring systems; standards and models; and geodesy and cartography (Article 7).
