OECD FAO Agricultural Outlook 2015-2024

06/07/2015

The OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría and the FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva, have released the OECD FAO Agricultural Outlook 2015-2024, the annual publication presenting projections and related market analysis for some 15 agricultural products over a ten-year horizon. After China and India, this year’s Outlook contains a special focus on Brazil.

The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook contains a Fish chapter showing projections on production, trade, consumption and prices and key factors that might influence future supply and demand.

This issue contains some interesting findings. Worldwide fisheries production is projected to expand by almost 20% between the 2012-14 base period and 2024. Aquaculture will be the main driver of this increase and is expected to surpass total capture fisheries in 2023. Prospects for the fisheries and aquaculture sector are good, with an expansion of per capita fish food consumption in all continents.
