The Project includes pilot initiatives in three villages to develop digital solutions for affordable rural services.

 

The "Digital Villages" project runs in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and has a budget of 4.54 million Euros. It was initiated by the Ministry of the Interior and Sport and the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering in 2015 and will conclude in 2019.

The creation of a common digital platform aims to develop and test new solutions for the provision of local goods, communication, mobility and electronic administration. Examples of services include an online marketplace with a voluntary delivery system and a local news portal.
