Plant Origin tracing System and Agro-chemicals Registration and Control System were develop by the Outcome 4/ VEGI/: Legal Framework project, funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by FAO. The systems were handed over to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI) in August 2020.

In accordance to the plan of 2021, three-stage trainings, training of trainers for civil servants working at the provincial/capital city and soum levels will be organized. Systems will be fully operational once all the trainings are complete.

The training of trainers has been successfully conducted online during 3-4 January 3-4 this year with the participation of the representatives from the MoFALI, GASI, Food and Agriculture Department of Municipal office, PIA, Plant Protection Research Institute and associations in the sector. During the opening of the training,  D. Yesun-Erdene, Head of the Seed, Soil and Plant Protection Division of the Crop Policy Implementation Coordination Department of the MoFALI, highlighted the importance of introducing the systems in line with the current Government Action Plan.

The introduction of tracing plant origin system will improve the implementation of the “Registration of traces of plants, their raw materials and products” approved by the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry - Order No. 105 of 2015 in order to increase the supply of safe food to consumers. As a result, it is now possible to issue sowing, harvest balances and harvest data directly from the systems.

Implementation of agrochemicals registration and control system will support the control of imports, use and packaging of chemical pesticides and fertilizers used in the agricultural sector of Mongolia.
