FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS MEETS WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE FAO IN MONGOLIA

Minister for Foreign Affairs Batmunkh Battsetseg received Vinod Ahuja, Representative of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Mongolia, and exchanged views on bilateral relations and cooperation.

Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg briefed on the Government’s goal, policy and measures undertaken to tackle the pandemic. Two sides have agreed that food security and nutrition are of concern during this challenging time, leading the discussion on the need to accelerate investment in food and agriculture sector to improve and secure food supply and food access.  

Minister B. Battsetseg highlighted the importance of agricultural production and export and emphasized “Mongolia Export” program approved in 2018 by the Government of Mongolia in order to diversify the economy and to develop non-mining export opportunities. She expressed that this will be an important agenda for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and hopes that FAO will support.

FAOR expressed full support for the points raised by the Minister. In addition, he emphasized the need for more concerted investment in promoting consumption and production of vegetables, promoting Information and Communication Technologies for enhancing the efficiency of agriculture sector and more systematic investment in dairy sector. 

The meeting ended on fruitful note to organize consultation with partners and private sector to further export opportunities.

Minister reaffirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ full support and cooperation with the FAO office in Mongolia.
