On International Mountain Day, the Alps read

26.10.2017

In an initiative launched by the Alpine Convention, partners all across the European Alps will be “reading mountains” on International Mountain Day (11 December). The Reading Mountains Festival is an occasion for partners, schools, individuals and all other interested organizations to hold events to celebrate Alpine literature, languages and cultures. Each participating organization can decide its own activity, such as planning a reading with a local author, a group hike that concludes with reading a book at the top, a reading circle discussing Alpine literature, a presentation of an exhibition on Alpine books in a local library, or combining literature with music and the performing arts or gastronomy – the options are limitless. The purpose of the festival is to promote the cultural aspects of the Alps while keeping in mind the goals of the Alpine Convention: the protection of the Alps, their sustainable development and diversity. This year, in the third edition of the initiative, partners from other mountain ranges have also joined in.
