This study examines the sweet potato value chain for selected municipalities in Lanao del Sur, Philippines, and identifies useful interventions to improve the livelihoods of internally displaced farmers affected by the Marawi Conflict. The brochure recommends measures to maximize the benefits of participating in the Marantao sweet potato value chain.

Globally, synergies between social protection and agriculture are taking place as part of an effort to combat hunger and poverty while promoting rural development. These efforts resonate with the vision and current strategies set in motion by the Government of the Philippines, which is committed to the goals and targets outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This document presents a framework for analysis with the purpose of strengthening coherence between agriculture and social protection, and identifying pathways for achieving policy and programmatic synergies.

This policy brief identifies a number of opportunities to systematically promote and link the policies and programmes of agriculture and social protection sectors in the Philippines to improve their effectiveness and overall efficiency. This coherence can be achieved by adapting, combining or coordinating at policy, programme and implementation levels.

The Ginger Farming Guide will help enhance farmers' understanding on how to keep their farms free of viruses and diseases. Emphasis must be on a sustained effort to reduce disease incidence to the minimum and protect the plants as long as possible from infection. Similarly, information on areas affected by disease and extent of infection including management strategies will help farmers make informed decisions with regards to farm investment and the viability of ginger cultivation in their areas.

The FAO regional project "Development of effective and inclusive food value chains in ASEAN Member States" (GCP/RAS/296/JPN) aimed to make a significant contribution to the food and livelihood security of smallholders, who will be integrated into food value chains and linked to new market opportunities.

The Ginger Value Chain Study report provides an overview and analysis of the ginger industry in Nueva Vizcaya in the Philippines, with the aim of identifying main leverage points and key strategies to improve its competitiveness. The report provides the basis for the formulation of the project's future activities, and lays the foundation for the project's cooperation with the private sector and other government agencies active in the ginger industry.
