Forestry Education in Africa South of Sahara1: A. B. Temu2 |
In this report, the preliminary results of a survey of 20 institutions teaching forestry in Africa are reported. The African Network for Agroforestry Education (ANAFE) implemented the survey in November and December 2002 with funding from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The main objective of the survey was to establish trends in forestry education and training in Africa South of Sahara (SSA) over the last ten years and make recommendations. The specific objectives were:
Altogether twenty institutions responded to a questionnaire survey. Annex 1 shows institutions that responded, and Annex 2 shows the actual questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Excel programme to facilitate easy presentation of trends by charts. Supplementary data were gathered from records available with ANAFE and through telephone interviews.
