Abstract
The meetings of MEDRAP II, Regional Coordinator with the Sub-regional and National Coordinators and with the participation of FAO, took place at the Regional Coordination Centre, in Tunis, six weeks before the first Project Steering Committee Meeting, scheduled for the 26th of April 1991.
The concerned sub-regions are: CYPRUS, ALGERIA, LIBYA and YUGOSLAVIA.
The objectives of the meetings were:
to define an operative work plan proposal for 1991–1992, to be submitted for approval by the Steering Committee;
to up-date priorities of the participating countries, since a considerable delay has elapsed between the Project Document its first drafting and its signature;
to reexamine the Project Document and propose amendments, when necessary, to be endorsed by the Steering Committee.
It was stressed that the support action promoted by MEDRAP should be developed through a more structured strategy. Training, Research, Extension and Production sub-networks should be considered as the basic instruments to develop the Project programmes.
At the same time, an information sub-network has to be considered as the platform for the functionning of the four sub-networks.
The various communications of the participants presented the assessment of aquaculture capabilities and needs in their respective countries and several proposals on the Project's programme of activities.
Acknowledgements
The Editior would like to thank all the National and Sud-Regional Coordinators for their participation and for their availability to host the Project's activities. Their national aquaculture assessment contributed to the formulation of a rational work plan taking into account their priorities and needs.
The Editor would also like to thank the FAO Representatives for their participation and contribution.
Note from the reviser
The revision and publication of this document could only be done a long time after the closure of the project.
This has led to some difficulties in finalising the documents and implementing corrections, because authors and contributors as well as some of the original material or files were no longer available.
Therefore contributions from participants and session papers annexed to most of the documents were left in their original form. No language corrections were introduced, the content was not modified and left under their respective authors' responsibility.
Considering the above, we hope that the reader will understand that a standard of publication could not be maintained on a level as high as we would have liked it to be.
