The two standard hydrographic sections were carried out, one on the equator, and the other off Pte. Panga. Figure 3 shows the results, and compared with the findings from the previous surveys it will be seen that no major change in the hydrographic regime has occurred during the year. The temperature in the surface layer has increased 2-3 degrees since the previous survey, and from the two hydrographical sections it is seen that water runoff from the rivers has lowered the salinity in the surface waters. From Figure 2 it is seen that surface temperature increases northwards from 24 degr. at Pointe Noire to 28 degr. at Libreville. A slight drop in the temperature was observed off Pointe Noire and Mayomba (Figure 2), indicating that a limited local upwelling occurred.
