In this contribution are continued the catch and stock data which were presented at the last meeting for the period 1971 until 1984 (HOLZLÖHNER, 1985).
The sardine samples origine partly from the licence fishery off Mauritania carried out by the FVS III, 3880 HP. The main target objects of this fishery are horse mackerals and partly sardinella. In the period from 1981 until 1984 the sardine was absent in the catches but in the last years (1985–1987) this species again has been caught as by-catch and sometimes also as target species.

The tables 2 and 3 demonstrate that we can meet the sardine in mauritanian waters in autumn, winter and spring in commercial quantities. The sardine is absent only in the warmest months June until September of all investigated years.
The differences in the seasonal distribution of catches from year to year partly are due to changing of other target species. Taking in consideration this factor we suppose that good sardine concentrations occur off Mauritania from December until May.
Table 3 demonstrates that the best catches and by-catches of sardine come from CECAF 34.1.3. (northerly of 19°N). Only a smaller quantity migrates into the CECAF subdivision 34.3.1. (southcrly of 19°N). For example commercial concentrations were detected at the latitude of 18°48'N in March 1987.
Partly the sardine samples were taken from landings in Rostock. These landings origine from imports from Morocco basing on the catches of the Moroccan GDR joint venture PIMARDA.
In the annex you will find the length, age and weigth data of our sardine samples for the years 1985 until 1987 taken in the meantime after the third meeting of the ad hoc working group.
