Site selection

For fruit production it is advisable to promote cultivation on the edges of agricultural areas, where the soils are shallow and the current crops provide only low yields due to limited water availability. Select plots with easy access, beles pads and fruits are heavy, so it is necessary to ensure good access to roads or trails throughout the year.

The introduction of beles on bench terraced areas can improve the benefits of this practice in reducing soil erosion. Homestead orchards however, are the best choice when starting beles cultivation.

In any situation, the new plantations should be properly managed with practices that aim to control plant size, optimize yield and fruit quality and reduce the risk of undesirable dispersal.
