Experience of agroecological transition in Colombia

This publication presents the results of the set of actions aimed at strengthening public policies for family agriculture with an agroecological approach, based on nine agroecological transition experiences in Columbia.

The first part presents concepts related to agroecology and other forms of alternative agriculture, agroecological transition, agroecological principles, levels of activity in the transition, the 10 elements of agroecology, and the challenges in the transition processes.

The second part presents the methodology used for this documentation of experiences and the descriptive elements of the nine experiences.

This publication contributes to the systematization of agroecological experiences in Colombia, which account for the key lines of action in the reconversion and/or transition processes, particularly in the development of guideline 5.1 "Promotion of agroecological practices and knowledge" of Resolution 464 of 20171, which contemplates the mapping of agroecological processes in the country, as well as the creation and promotion of agroecological learning communities through the systematization and socialization of case studies of agroecological based Family and Community Farming (ACFC).

The ''Sembrando Capacidades'' project is a trilateral South-South cooperation initiative between the  Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ABC/MRE), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil (MAPA), FAO, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia (MADR). It aims to improve differentiated public policies for the peasant, family farming, and community agriculture in Colombia, through the exchange of experiences with Brazil.
