This opinion article highlights Colombia's efforts to address the biodiversity crisis by transforming its food systems through agroecology. As the country hosts the 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP16) in Cali Colombia, it introduces a new national policy focused on strengthening agroecological practices.

This policy, integrated into Colombia's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), underscores the critical role agroecology plays in meeting biodiversity targets while advancing Sustainable Development Goals related to hunger, poverty, health, inequality, and climate change.
