Agroecology in Latin America: Building Paths

This report highlights the findings of the participatory action-research initiative Agroecology in Latin America: Building Paths, an effort to monitor and evaluate agroecology's social, economic, and environmental contributions through community-driven indicators. Since 2020, 10 farming organizations across seven Latin American countries have collaborated with researchers and farming families to collect and analyze data, using tools like the LiteFarm app to ensure data sovereignty.

The fourth edition, covering July 2023 to June 2024, focuses on 11 agroecological indicators developed through dialogue between the Steering Committee and farming communities. These indicators blend quantitative data from farmer surveys with qualitative insights from interviews and detailed farming records. The project aims to strengthen agroecological knowledge and inform public policies that support family farmers' transitions to sustainable practices.

Led by organizations from Paraguay, Guatemala, Colombia, El Salvador, Ecuador, Mexico, and Brazil, and supported by the Inter-American Foundation and the University of British Columbia, this initiative underscores the potential of agroecology to transform food systems while empowering rural communities.
