Evaluación del desempeño agroecológico de sistemas hortícolas del partido de General Pueyrredon
In Latin America, the intensification of agricultural systems has triggered concerns about the social and environmental impacts of the prevailing production model. In Argentina's Pampas region, this intensification is particularly evident. However, in the southeastern area of Buenos Aires province, specifically in the district of General Pueyrredon, agroecological systems have gained prominence, particularly in urban-rural transition zones where intensive agriculture is more common.
The growing interest in evaluating the performance of agroecological systems in General Pueyrredon has led to initial research focused on horticultural systems. By applying the TAPE methodology developed by FAO, which incorporates the 10 elements of agroecology, the study analyzed six cases. The findings highlight varying levels of progress in agroecological transitions. Elements such as co-creation and knowledge exchange, as well as circular economy practices, showed strong performance. Conversely, areas such as synergies and recycling lagged behind. Key factors influencing these outcomes include land access, capital availability, and management capacity.
The evaluation underscores the importance of incorporating stakeholder perspectives early in the process to establish contextually relevant criteria. Such an approach can support more inclusive and effective policy development aimed at fostering sustainability in the local agricultural landscape.
