Agroforestry and Agroecological Transitions: between Ethnography and Evaluation of Practices in Colombia
In the Oriente Antioqueño region of Colombia, agroecological and agroforestry transitions are reshaping local food systems, especially in the rural areas of Santuario and Carmen de Viboral. This thesis combines FAO’s Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation (TAPE) with an ethnographic approach to evaluate these transitions, focusing on the lived experiences of local campesinos. The study places particular emphasis on two cases that integrate agroforestry alongside agroecological practices.
By merging quantitative data with qualitative insights, the research highlights the unique challenges and outcomes associated with agroforestry systems compared to agroecological transitions alone. The findings underscore how socio-cultural dynamics and practical considerations influence the success of these initiatives, contributing valuable knowledge to discussions on grassroots resilience and sustainable land management.
