Hunger, malnutrition and unsustainable food-system practices persist because of policy gaps and unequal access to the knowledge and tools needed for food security and nutrition (FSN) decision-making. This event will examine how more equitable science–policy interfaces that are inclusive of local and Indigenous People’s knowledge can advance transformative food-system action by linking scientific, technical and local expertise, social participation and collective mobilisation. Responding to HLPE recommendations on building resilient food systems, reducing inequalities and promoting agroecology, the event will share practical lessons and tools for creating equitable knowledge systems that enable societies to ‘bounce forward’ from shocks, taking into account structural inequalities and differential vulnerabilities. Examples include work by the Food Equity Centre and the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty showing how diverse forms of knowledge can strengthen equitable, rights-based FSN policies, alongside tools such as the Good News for Change repository and the Agroecology TPP CFS policy tracking. Through interactive dialogue, participants will explore strategies to strengthen inclusion, participation and agency in science–policy interfaces, advancing food sovereignty, the Right to Food and resilient food systems beyond 2030.

List of Objectives

  1. Foster dialogue and knowledge sharing among CFS stakeholders and constituencies on complementarities between the CFS and other global and national FSN knowledge platforms for the realisation of recommendations for building equitable knowledge systems as proposed by HLPE 20 ‘Building resilient food systems’, HLPE 18 ‘Reducing inequalities’, and HLPE 14 ‘Agroecological and other innovative approaches’.

  2. Share lessons from global, national and territorial experiences on inclusive and participatory knowledge governance and practices, to deepen understanding of how food systems can ‘bounce forward’ through approaches grounded on equity, food sovereignty, socioecological interdependencies and the realization of the Right to Food.

  3. Showcase concrete examples, practices and lessons learned from communities, organizations, and participatory policy spaces working to build equitably transformative resilient food systems in diverse regional contexts.

  4. Foster collaboration across regions by sharing practical strategies, tools and governance approaches that support equitable science-policy interfaces that support food system transformation.

  5. Generate actionable reflections on how the CFS and action-oriented platforms such as the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty can further strengthen equitable, plural and participatory science-policy interfaces, especially at country level.
