No results found.The fifth meeting of the CFMC/OSPESCA/WECAFC/CRFM/CITES Working Group on Queen Conch (QCWG) was held in a hybrid format. The meeting was hosted in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 13 to 14 December 2021, but most attendees participated in the meeting remotely. The following members and regional partner organizations participated: Bahamas, Belize, Colombia, European Union, France (on behalf of Guadeloupe and Martinique), Honduras, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the United States of America, the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC), the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM), the Caribbean Fishery Management Council (CFMC), the Organization for the Fishing and Aquaculture Sector of the Central American Isthmus (OSPESCA). The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI), the Regional Committee of Marine Fisheries and Marine Aquaculture of Guadeloupe, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Wildlife Conservation Society (Belize). Experts were also in attendance from the Scientific, Statistical and Technical Advisory Group of the Queen Conch Working Group (QCWG/SSTAG). Discussions focused on the progress made towards implementation of the Regional Queen Conch Fisheries Management and Conservation Plan and recommendations adopted at the 17th meeting of the Commission in 2019. Participants learned about collaborative work on Queen conch, especially at the regional level, and an overview of the intersessional activities undertaken. -

No results found.The third meeting of the CFMC/OSPESCA/WECAFC/CRFM/CITES Working Group on Queen Conch was held in Panama City, Panama from 30 October to 1 November 2018. The following countries and regional partner organizations participated: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, France (Martinique), Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the United States of America, the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Discussions focused on strengthening contributions to national, regional and international responsibilities and commitments for the management and conservation of and trade in queen conch and related or interacting species or fisheries in the Western Central Atlantic. Participants also considered how to strengthen the livelihoods of the people depending on these resources by following the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, and in accordance with management goals agreed in the Regional Queen Conch Fisheries Management and Conservation Plan, which remains a matter of priority. La Tercera Reunión del Grupo de Trabajo de CFMC/OSPESCA/WECAFC/CRFM/CITES sobre el Caracol Rosado se realizó en Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá, del 30 de octubre al 1° de noviembre de 2018. En la reunión estuvieron presentes los siguientes países y organizaciones aliadas: Antigua y Barbuda, Bahamas, Belice, Colombia, Cuba, la Republica Dominicana, Francia (Martinica), Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panamá, Santa Lucia, San Vicente y las Granadinas, los Estados Unidos de América, la Comisión de Pesca para el Atlántico Centro Occidental (COPACO), la Convención sobre el Comercio Internacional de Especies Amenazadas de Fauna y Flora Silvestres. Las discusiones se enfocaron en el fortalecimiento de las contribuciones a las responsabilidades y compromisos nacionales, regionales e internacionales para el ordenamiento, conservación y el comercio del caracol rosado y las especies relacionadas, o que interactúan, o las pesquerías en el Atlántico Centro Occidental. Los participantes también consideraron la manera de fortalecer los modos de subsistencia de la población que depende de estos recursos mediante el cumplimiento del Código de Conducta para la Pesca Responsable, y, en concordancia con las metas de manejo acordadas en el Plan Regional de Ordenamiento Pesquero y Conservación del Caracol Rosado, que permanece como cuestión de prioridad. -

No results found.The third meeting of the CFMC/WECAFC/OSPESCA/CRFM Working Group on Spawning Aggregations was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 18 to 19 December 2019. The purpose of the third meeting of the CFMC/WECAFC/OSPESCA/CRFM Working Group on Spawning Aggregations were to consider the Regional Fish Spawning Aggregation Draft Fishery Management Plan (FSAMP) focused on Nassau grouper and mutton snapper and outline steps towards its adoption. La tercera reunión del Grupo de trabajo conjunto CFMC/COPACO/OSPESCA/CRFM sobre agregaciones de desove tuvo como objetivos examinar el proyecto de Plan regional de ordenación pesquera de las especies que forman agregaciones de desove: enfoque en la cherna criolla y el pargo criollo (PROPEFAD), y describir las medidas para su adopción. Se espera que este plan regional proporcione orientación para mejorar la ordenación pesquera de otras especies de peces de arrecife que forman agregaciones de desove, según lo determinado por los diferentes países miembros.
