    This report is part of a series of analytical products produced under the Global Network Against Food Crises initiative co-led by EU, FAO, and WFP to enhance and coordinate the generation and sharing of evidence‑based information and analysis for preventing and addressing food crises. This FAO-WFP early warning analysis of acute food insecurity hotspots report highlights countries which are at risk of significant food security deterioration and in particular acute hunger and associated malnutrition. The analysis takes into account all major drivers of food insecurity, with a particular focus on the secondary impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides a forward-looking perspective, outlining the likely evolution of impacts over the next 6 or so months aiming to inform urgent action to safeguard food security of the most vulnerable communities in these locations. The report is divided into three sections. It firstly includes an overview of the main pathways of secondary impacts of COVID-19 on food security, nutrition, and agriculture. This is followed by regional overviews and a focus on hotspot countries. The last section lists strategic recommendations which should be urgently implemented to avoid a large scale deterioration of acute food insecurity.

    The March edition of the Hunger Hotspots report document provides the results of a joint FAO-WFP early warning analysis of acute food insecurity hotspots, highlights countries that are at risk of significant food security deterioration, and in particular acute hunger and associated malnutrition. The analysis takes into account all major drivers of food insecurity. It provides a forward-looking perspective, outlining the likely evolution of impacts over the next three or so months aiming to inform urgent action to safeguard food security of the most vulnerable communities in these locations.

    The Early Warning Early Action (EWEA) Report on Food Security and Agriculture is developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It provides a quarterly forward-looking analysis of major disaster risks to food security and agriculture, specifically highlighting: - potential new emergencies resulting from imminent disaster threats - new developments in countries already affected by protracted crises which are likely to cause a further deterioration of food insecurity This report is part of FAO’s efforts to systematically link early warnings to anticipatory actions. By providing specific early action recommendations for each country, the report aims to prompt FAO and partners to proactively mitigate and/or prevent disasters before they start to adversely impact food security. In order of intensity, for the period April to June 2020, the high risk section includes: COVID-19 global outbreak Desert locust crisis Yemen Burkina Faso, Mali and the Niger Syrian Arab Republic Ethiopia
