2022FAO assesses that globally 44 countries, including 33 in Africa, nine in Asia and two in Latin America and the Caribbean, are in need of external assistance for food. Conditions are projected to worsen significantly in West Africa, due to conflicts, high food prices and reduced harvests, while the situation is alarming in East Africa. Humanitarian needs are foreseen to also increase in Southern Africa in late 2022 due to the impact of adverse weather. -

2022FAO assesses that globally 46 countries, including 33 in Africa, 10 in Asia, two in Latin America and the Caribbean, and one in Europe, are in need of external assistance for food. This list now includes Ukraine and Sri Lanka. Serious concerns also relate to East Africa due to multiple seasons of drought conditions, with a looming risk of famine in some areas. Across the globe, the rising food prices and overall inflation are worsening food security conditions, particularly in low-income food-deficit countries, while the use of agricultural inputs could be limited by their elevated prices, possibly lowering yields and harvests in 2022. -

2021FAO assesses that globally 44 countries, including 33 in Africa, nine in Asia and two in Latin America and the Caribbean, are in need of external assistance for food. Food insecurity conditions are of grave concern in parts of East Africa due to conflict and drought conditions, while in West Africa, food insecurity is foreseen to worsen to alarming levels in 2022 underpinned by shortfalls in agricultural production and persisting conflicts.
