Youth represent more than half of the population of Sierra Leone and can play a critical role in the future of agriculture, however they need support to unlock their potential. Empowering Sierra Leonean youth to invest in agriculture and food systems is key to achieving sustainable food security, reducing youth unemployment, combating distress migration, and making agriculture more efficient, sustainable, and resilient. FAO developed this manual, in collaboration with Solidaridad West Africa, to support trainers in preparing and delivering the training on empowering rural women to engage in responsible agricultural investments (RAI). The design of this training programme is based upon a specific methodology that meets the learning needs of rural women in Sierra Leone. Building upon lessons learned from the first training and dialogue events piloted by FAO and Solidaridad West Africa in Bo, Bombali, Kenema, and Port Loko districts in 2022, the manual is a step-by-step guide which provides all the necessary materials for trainers to replicate the RAI training for rural women in Sierra Leone. This manual aims to be a valuable tool for developing capacities on RAI at the grassroots level.
