No results found.The terminal evaluation report for the FAO-GEF 5 project provides a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the project's relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability. Drawing upon a wealth of data, including project documents, stakeholder interviews and field visits, this report evaluates the project's objectives against the actual results achieved. It offers a detailed examination of the project results and identifies key strengths and weaknesses, key lessons learned, factors that contributed to realization of project results as well as potential areas for improvement. The participatory forest management project was implemented through a partnership between FAO, the Kenya Forest Service, the Kenyan Wildlife Service, Samburu County Government, Kenya Forestry Research Institute, Community Forest Associations and the Suyian Trust. The evaluation assesses the extent to which the project’s global environmental objective (strengthen biodiversity conservation and enhance carbon sequestration) and development objective (improve livelihoods of communities from dryland forest-based products and services) were realized. -

FAO/GCF "Carbon Sequestration through climate investment in forests and rangelands in the Kyrgyz Republic (CS-FOR)" project was approved at the 24th meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board on 14 November 2019 in Songdo, South Korea. The project agreement between FAO, in its capacity as Accredited Entity of the Green Climate Fund, and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic was countersigned on 4 March 2022 in Bishkek and ratified by the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) Resolution № 233-VII dated 27 April 2022 and was declared effective by the GCF Secretariat on 25 October 2022. The Kyrgyz Republic’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement commits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15.97 percent by 2030. The goal of the CS-FOR project is to contribute to the development of a low carbon-emission and climate resilient economy, while capitalizing important co-benefits from adaptation and disaster risk reduction. The project will lead to the sequestration of 19.8 million tCO2eq in 20 years. These reductions represent 7.6 percent of the country’s total emissions, and 22.6 percent of the agricultural share of emissions. The objective of the project is to increase carbon sequestration through supporting climate investments in forests and rangelands and through reducing drivers of degradation and emissions via institutional support, participatory ecosystem-based sustainable management of natural resources and green growth investments. -

The project “Implementing the socio-ecosystem approach to conserve and sustainable use biodiversity in the Caribbean Region of Colombia” was financed by the GEF, implemented, and executed by FAO. The results of the evaluation highlight the relevance of the project to reduce the degradation and fragmentation of the strategic ecosystems of the Caribbean Colombian area, increase and improve the provision of goods and services from agricultural and forestry production. It was also found a high effectiveness of the project in obtaining the expected results, exceeding in some cases, the established goals. Likewise, the processes and mechanisms implemented by the project for the involvement of relevant stakeholders generated a very high ownership of the project. Due to the successes achieved, the evaluation identified good practices and lessons learned that may be useful for the design of similar projects. Among the main areas for improvement that were identified, is to improve the design of goals related to the impact on policy instruments and the determination of co-financing by the project partners; the institutionalization of the Regional Strategy of Socioecosystemic Connectivities to ensure its replicability and the revision of the tool for monitoring the effectiveness in the management of the GEF.
