As of 2019, FAO has approximately 40 South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) projects in more than 90 host countries. Moreover, different Trust Funds (TFs) have been established, partnering with countries such as Brazil, the People’s Democratic Republic of China, Japan, Mexico, Morocco and the Republic of Korea. FAO’s SSTC Gateway is a platform designed to facilitate knowledge and partnership brokering for SSTC in the agriculture and rural development sector. The platform comprises good practices, technical guidance documents, videos from the agriculture and agri-food sector, a SSTC expertise database and allows users to submit SSTC-related inquiries. This scale-up note is part of a series of SSTC scale-up notes, which provide insight into FAO's role in SSTC.

In the last 20 years, project partner countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, where 80 percent of cotton production is in the hands of family farmers or small-scale agriculture, have faced a decrease in cotton production, affecting the potential of thousands of farming families to generate income. South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) represents an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, generating innovation in terms of technology and management of the cotton sector in the countries involved in the +Cotton Project. This scale-up note is part of a series of SSTC scale-up notes, which provide an insight into SSTC's latest partnerships and ventures to encourage countries across the global South to share resources and technologies to improve their ecosystems and economies.

Africa’s population is set to grow to 1.5 billion by 2025, boosting rice demand but facing a shortfall in production and high import costs. Urbanization in Asia is also causing rice consumption to outstrip population growth. The South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) Capacity Development and Experience sharing for Rice Value Chain targets rice value-related national training, research, and extension institutions, as well as smallholder farmers, millers, traders, and national rice experts in Tanzania, Côte d’Ivoire and The Philippines.
