No results found.This Guidance Note for Resident Coordinators and United Nations Country Teams (UNCT) aims to ensure that One Health is adequately included in the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCF). The UNSDCF should support mainstreaming One Health approaches into national development plans and enable better streamlining and integration of relevant One Health activities in order to contribute to the strengthening of overall health systems. One Health is an integrated, unifying approach to sustainably optimize the health of people, animals, plants and ecosystems by acting together to manage health threats and promote good health. One Health approaches are increasingly being taken up by countries, given the frequency and severity of threats linking the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment. The approach is vital to addressing ongoing multidimensional health challenges, including: emerging infectious diseases and pandemics like COVID-19; the burden of zoonotic diseases; the upsurge of food, land and water safety hazards; the impacts of pollution; the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance; and the degradation of natural ecosystems and biodiversity. This Guidance Note has been developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) (known collectively as the Quadripartite). The guidelines should be considered in the content of the Quadripartite One Health Joint Plan of Action (2022-2026) which provides the vision and guidance for the inclusion of a One Health approach at country level and within the UNSDCF. -

No results found.The “SDG localization in Europe and Central Asia – Guidelines to support subnational development planning and budgeting” provides guidance to support local authorities and other relevant stakeholders in subnational development planning and budgeting, in the context of SDG localization. It gives an overview of decentralization and subnational decision-making in Europe and Central Asia, and examples of pilot initiatives on SDG localization in the region and beyond. In addition, the toolkit provides a step-by-step approach to SDG localization and includes a checklist to facilitate its operationalization and implementation. SDG localization is the process of taking into account subnational contexts in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, from the setting of goals and targets to determining the means of implementation and using indicators to measure and monitor progress. Localization entails a set of processes that aim to mainstream global development agendas into development planning documents at the local level. Although countries have made efforts to integrate the SDGs into national strategies and development documents, efforts at the subnational level tend to adopt national priorities without critical appraisal of their relevance to the needs and opportunities specific to the local context. The guidelines present specific and adaptable actions to integrate the SDGs into subnational and local planning to meet local development needs and ensure that the LNOB principle is considered. The step-by-step approach consists of an inception phase based on stakeholders’ engagement, situational analysis to prioritize development directions and solutions, institutional analysis and strengthening, development planning document formulation, implementation, and resource mobilization, monitoring and accountability – all with the involvement and participation of local stakeholders. -

The guide outlines the practical applications of the VGGT – an internationally recognized framework on the responsible governance of tenure – in the context of the design and implementation of LDN initiatives. It offers a flexible multi-pathway approach to support policy and decision-makers and relevant stakeholders in shaping a tailor-made response to commonly encountered land tenure challenges via a range of national plans, legal frameworks, strategies, and action programmes addressing land degradation.
